Iris Wireless Turbocharges Call Detail Record Analysis With Vertica Analytic Database
Provider of "must have" wireless messaging services sees huge query performance, data compression improvements and real time analysis capabilities in move from Oracle
BILLERICA, Mass., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Iris Wireless is enabling mobile operators to attract and keep new subscribers using the Vertica Analytic Database to discover new insight into subscribers' mobile messaging experiences, wants and needs.
The Texas-based provider of mobile messaging solutions and value-added services has switched from Oracle to Vertica's blazingly fast performance, allowing it to analyze terabytes of SMS and call detail record (CDR) data at speeds and volumes previously unimaginable. In addition to reducing individual query times from over a minute apiece to less than four seconds, Vertica's aggressive compression capability has reduced data storage to a fraction of the original data size.
Iris's ION SMS platform enables text messaging interoperability between mobile operators, across different technologies and protocols. ION delivers SMS to more than 800 mobile operators in 200 countries across six continents, providing access to more than 2.5 billion subscribers.
The Vertica Analytic Database's columnar DBMS and scale-out MPP architecture allows Iris to load over 100 million records per day while keeping billions of CDRs representing months worth of data active for analysis.
"Our customers place a premium on having easy access to timely information showing how our services are affecting user behavior and their revenue," said Sunir Kochhar, chief technology officer, Iris Wireless. "Vertica gives us a substantial advantage by making more information available faster, more cost effectively."
Using Vertica as its analytics/data warehousing solution, Iris is able to load data in real time, making it almost instantly available for high speed querying by both external customers and internal users.
"As mobile operators face increased commoditization of services, the successful ones will win based on their ability to deliver new products and react to customers faster, driven by better business intelligence about their customers. Iris Wireless stands out for tapping cutting edge technologies to help operators develop 'must have' solutions in unmatched time," said Jerry Held, executive chairman of Vertica.
