(ISC)2® Announces 2010 GISLA Judges Committee

PALM HARBOR, Fla., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- (ISC)2® ("(ISC)2-squared"), the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide, with over 70,000 members in more than 135 countries, today announced the judges for its 2010 U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLAs), which for the first time, will include both judges that serve on (ISC)2's U.S. Government Advisory Board (GAB) for Cyber Security and judges drawn from the broader information security community.

"As the GISLAs have grown in reputation and visibility across the information security community, we determined that it was important and appropriate to introduce more independence and a broadened perspective into the selection process of both finalists and winners," explains W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director of (ISC)2, former CIO of the U.S. Department of Interior. "We are honored that some of the most accomplished information security leaders across the public and private sector have agreed to serve as judges for this year's GISLAs."

The new GISLA judges are as follows:

• Patricia N. Edfors, CISSP, CISM, CIPP, CISA, CSM, principal of Banrion Consulting. Currently serving as head of an information risk management firm, Ms. Edfors is a recognized senior executive whose experience spans the government, healthcare, financial, Internet services and telecommunications industries. During her long and successful career, Ms. Edfors has served in a variety of capacities, including as chief privacy and security officer for Mirixa Corporation and in senior IT risk leadership roles for the U.S. Treasury and Justice Departments, NIST, America Online and Baltimore Technologies (formerly GTE CyberTrust).
• Simon Y. Liu, Ph.D., director of the U.S. National Agricultural Library. Dr. Liu is an information systems and security specialist, author, professor and speaker. In addition to his current position, he has served as association director and director of information systems at the National Library of Medicine and acting director of information management and security at the U.S. Department of Justice.
• Raymond Romero, deputy associate director, information security officer, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Board. Since joining the Federal Reserve Board in 1990, Mr. Romero has been involved in oversight of Reserve Bank automation planning, security and governance. He assumed responsibility of the Board's information security program in 2002 and has since worked diligently to build an effective and comprehensive security program and to enhance and strengthen the Board's security posture.
• John F. "Jack" Stoute, deputy chief information officer (acting), Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In his current role, Mr. Stoute oversees the provision of IT support services to all components of HHS.  Mr. Stoute is also notable as one of an elite group of former GISLA winners, having been honored with the award in 2007 for creating an agency-wide vision for computer security awareness training, implementing a program that fostered a greater understanding of security and privacy issues and for creating a more secure overall environment at HHS' Program Support Center (PSC).

The new GISLA judges join eight GAB members who will comprise the judging panel this year. They are as follows:

• Marc H. Noble, CISSP-ISSAP, CISM, CGEIT, MBCI, co-chair of (ISC)2 GAB and director of government affairs for (ISC)2
• Arthur R. Friedman, CISSP, senior strategist for privilege management, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense/Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Information and Identity Assurance, U.S. Department of Defense
• James. L. Golden, CISSP, CISM, CGEIT, associate partner, Information Technology (IT) Governance, IBM
• Dara G. Murray, CISSP, director of IT security for the Program Support Center, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
• Jerry G. Ormaner, CISSP, CISM, senior IT project manager, Operations Services Staff, U.S. Department of Justice
• Patrick J. Kelly, IT analyst, Federal Reserve Board
• Charles L. McGann, Jr., CISSP, CISM, corporate information security officer, U.S. Postal Service
• Lynn McNulty, CISSP, current (ISC)2 consultant, former co-chair of (ISC)2 GAB and former (ISC)2 director of government affairs

The GISLA program was established in 2004 as part of (ISC)2's effort to recognize the ongoing commitment by federal information security leaders to build a highly qualified and ethical workforce.
