NEWARK, Calif., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ITRenew, a global provider of IT asset disposition (ITAD) services and data sanitization software, today announced that it has been certified to the global Responsible Recycling (R2) standard for its processing facility in Brazil. With this certification, ITRenew becomes the only company with active certified electronics recycling operations in Brazil, the world's seventh largest economy.
"Brazil is the biggest economy in Latin America and has very tough restrictions for electronics processing," states Ness Lawrence, ITRenew's Director of Operations for Central and South America. "No used electronics can be imported, and nearly 20 permit to work certificates were required for us to process the materials responsibly, in compliance with our environmental management system. With a bustling business sector in Brazil and no certified recycling operations available, electronic scrap has been piling up in this underserved market."
The 14,000-square-foot-plus facility, which opened in July, supports the company's full range of ITAD and lifecycle management services for its multi-national corporate clients, including the only certified forensic-level data sanitization for solid-state drives. The facility also provides product returns management services for OEMs, retailers and leasing companies, and support for data center colocation providers.
Beyond environmental compliance, the facility also provides state-of-the-art security. According to Ness, the building is equipped with "three lines of defense. It's surrounded by walls and electronic gates. It is secured with magnetic controls, steel doors, steel-screened windows and concrete walls, and is patrolled by armed guards. Plus, it's monitored 24x7 by camera surveillance and motion detectors through a central security station."
In addition to R2, the facility has been certified to ISO 14001 and 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards for environmental management, quality, health and safety.
