Leading LMS Provider Honors Two Remarkable Teachers with $10,000 in Grants
NEW YORK, April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- itslearning, a leading learning management system provider, is excited to announce the winners of "The Heart of Education" award program. This program honors K-12 teachers who are using technology in new and engaging ways to connect with their students. The two winning teachers will each be awarded a $5,000 grant.
Steven Isaacs, an 8th grade teacher from William Annin Middle School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, was selected as the K-8th grade winner for his creation of a unique quest-based game development curriculum. Through this new program, Mr. Isaacs provides his students with the opportunity to explore different aspects of game development including graphic design, storytelling, programming, and sound engineering. Experiencing these new disciplines encourages his students to find and pursue their interests in the context of a project-based learning assignment. Mr. Isaacs' curriculum, which offers students a choice in learning pathways, demonstrates that student engagement is strongly driven by passion for the subject matter and the opportunity to own their personal education journey.
Joseph Fatheree, an 11th grade teacher from Effingham High School in Effingham, Illinois, was selected as the 9th-12th grade winner for his use of technology in the classroom to unlock the power of students' creativity and communicate with varied worldwide audiences. This has allowed his students to learn about and appreciate diverse cultures while furthering their quest to become vibrant and active global citizens. As a result, Mr. Fatheree's students have been invited to share their work at a wide array of events, including the International Summit on Human Rights, hosted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in Paris, France.
