Jack Daniel's Breaks World Records in Celebration of Founder's 161st Birthday

LYNCHBURG, Tenn., Sept. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sept. 1, Jack Daniel's became the global record holder for six world records in honor of the 161st birthday of its founder, Mr. Jack Daniel.  At a birthday bash held in New York City, friends and fans of the famed whiskey-maker turned out to support the brand's quest to break seven world records in one day.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® Adjudicator Kimberly Patrick was present to validate the records and present Jack Daniel's with official certification of the six records achieved.

Most Contributions to a Greeting Card

Jack fans from across the globe joined in the historic quest by sending digital birthday greetings to the whiskey icon via the Jack Daniel's Facebook page.  Digital greetings were transcribed and added to greetings collected from fans during birthday bash.  By the close of the event, 1,075 greetings were obtained.

Largest Glass Bottle Mosaic

Using 2,120 Jack Daniel's bottles, Mosaic Artist Herb Williams created a large mosaic portrait of the famed whiskey-maker.

Largest Bottle of Whiskey

The world's best-selling whiskey is now the owner of the largest whiskey bottle in the world, which contained 184 liters of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey.

Most Bottles Played (bottle orchestra)

Record participants used 475 Jack Daniel's bottles to play a rendition of "Happy Birthday" dedicated to Jack.

Most People Blowing Out Candles Simultaneously

Two hundred fifty record participants simultaneously blew out candles in honor of Mr. Jack.

Fastest Time to Build a 20 Shot Glass Pyramid

On behalf of Jack Daniel's, Samantha Sherlock from Newark, Delaware constructed a pyramid consisting of 20 shot glasses in 10.56 seconds.

The only record not achieved was the "largest gathering of people born in same month."  

Master Taster Jeff Norman noted that garnering six GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS in one day was a feat that even those at the distillery did not think was possible.  "Although we didn't get all of them, we certainly did something that is truly monumental for our brand and honoring our founder.  As someone who makes whiskey knows, it takes time and you can't rush things, so I'd be surprised if we don't come back and tackle the other one in the near future."
