Jack Hidary To Run For Mayor Of New York
Brooklyn Native Announces Independent Bid for 2013
NEW YORK, July 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Declaring he would "move power from City Hall, and return it to our communities," today successful entrepreneur Jack Hidary announced his independent candidacy for Mayor of New York. This announcement is significant because prior to announcing his decision, Mr. Hidary has raised more than $450,000 in donations, signaling strong support from New York voters.

In his announcement to the citizens of New York City, Hidary cited his history of creating jobs, identifying new opportunities and problem solving skills as a contrast to the candidates on both sides of the race. He identified addressing the city's upcoming budget deficit, creating new businesses and jobs throughout the five boroughs, empowering NYPD with new tools to keep its streets safe and bringing true reform to its school system. Hidary's vision is about taking the city forward, and not back to politics as usual with the old policy ideas of other candidates for mayor.
"Hidary is an unabashed supporter of Bloomberg's policies and a champion of the city's growing tech community, which will distinguish him in the mayoral race and add more substance to the political debates," said Kathy Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York.
Hidary, 45, was born in Brooklyn, and raised on Ocean Parkway, near Coney Island. His great-grandfather immigrated to New York in the early 1900s and settled on the Lower East Side, where Jack's grandfather established a garment business that continues to thrive today. Jack built a career as a successful technology CEO while improving schools, and supporting loans to low income individuals to start their own businesses. He established several New York-based companies, including co-founding Dice.com, a website that connects people to well-paying jobs. To date, Americans have found five million jobs through Dice. Jack is currently Chairman of Samba Energy.
"Jack knows how to manage large complex organizations," said Michael J. Wolf, CEO of Activate, Inc., Yahoo Board Member, and former Chief Operating Officer of MTV Networks. "He is the only candidate who can run New York City."
Hidary is no stranger to New York politics, with more than 15 years of active participation in public service. In 2005, he advocated for energy-efficient taxicabs with then –City Council member of the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission, David Yassky. The two successfully worked with drivers to save thousands of dollars per cab each year in fuel costs, and today the majority of the 13,500 taxis in New York are energy-efficient vehicles.
Hidary has been involved in numerous important civic groups, as Partner at Partnership for New York, as Trustee of the Citizen's Budget Commission, and a Member of the Association for a Better New York. He serves on several advisory boards including National Renewable Energy Lab and Google X Labs. He also serves on the board of X Prize Foundation. He attended Columbia University.
Jack is a founding member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and was named by the World Economic Forum as a Global Leader of Tomorrow. Jack's Brooklyn roots, global knowledge, expertise in technology and finance, and deep experience improving education make him uniquely suited to be New York's Mayor.
