Jackson School District Cuts Remote Access Costs by 40 Percent by Replacing Citrix with Ericom's Remote Access Solution
Ericom's connection broker with high performance HTML5 browser-based client is faster and easier to deploy and use
CLOSTER, N.J., Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, today announced that Jackson School District in New Jersey has chosen Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect over Citrix to provide remote, managed access to Windows-based educational curriculum, applications and desktops from anywhere, using any device.
Jackson School District sought to provide 1000 teachers and students at 10 schools with a fast and easy way to remotely access educational resources. Working with Cloud services provider Boxed Network and Ericom, Jackson implemented PowerTerm WebConnect as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution , which amongst its improved usability and lower IT overhead, saved Jackson from having to invest in on-premise IT infrastructure.
Lincoln Mahabir, Jackson's Supervisor of Technology said, "We wanted to provide a way for teachers and eventually students to remotely access school files and applications from home and other off-school locations. However, working with the Citrix client was proving to be too complicated with our students. We trialed Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect and found its HTML5 browser-based capabilities to be much easier and faster to use than Citrix."
Ericom's high performance HTML5 RDP client runs entirely within HTML5-compatible browsers, i.e., Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE, and on mobile and desktops computing devices, such as iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Windows, Mac and Linux, and Chromebooks – extending the latter's reach to Windows applications and desktops.
Mahabir continued, "Replacing Citrix with Ericom's SaaS-based PowerTerm WebConnect solution has not only saved us 40 percent in IT costs, but has allowed our teachers, students, administration and parents to easily and flexibly connect with the school. Ericom, through the help of Boxed Network and Always ON Cloud Technology is extending the boundaries of the school's learning environment, which is especially crucial for our BYOD efforts."
Vinny Zafonte of Boxed Network Environment and Always ON Cloud Technology, Inc. commented, "As schools enter the BYOD-cloud era, host providers and ISVs need to be innovative when it comes to addressing school data center delivery and BYOD needs, from both a technical, support and usability perspective. With our 'Always On' cloud technology solutions, we look forward to continuing to assisting Jackson and other school districts reap both the promise of the Cloud and Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect with its HTML5 browser-based remote access capabilities."
Brian Berns, Ericom Software's President and COO commented: "Jackson School District is one of many school districts that are leveraging Ericom access solutions to implement BYOD, 1:1 computing and Chromebook deployments. These K-12 districts find that Ericom's solution provides students, staff and parents the flexibility to access Windows applications and desktops from a wide range of devices. It's an easy to deploy solution that minimizes the burden on IT staff while fitting school districts' budgetary requirements."
