James Smith Joins Ankura as a Senior Managing Director

Mr. Smith's securities and financial sector experience has involved products across the investment spectrum: private equity, foreign exchange, mutual funds, fixed income funds, hedge funds, real estate, and insurance and relate to business planning, internal reviews and investigations, securities fraud and financial crimes, and investor disputes. He also works on cross-border and international tax-related matters and investigations.

In addition, Mr. Smith conducts trade secret and other intellectual property valuations in a range of industries, including health sciences, financial services, hospitality, consumer products, and technology. This work is often in the context of cybertheft.

He currently serves as an analytic exchange program fellow with the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security, focusing on threats associated with intellectual property theft. He is also a member of Business Executives for National Security, a think tank that works with government partners to address the nation's most pressing challenges, including cybersecurity and domestic terrorism.

Before joining Ankura, he worked in the finance and intellectual property practices at Charles River Associates. Prior to CRA, he worked at Putnam, Hayes and Bartlett (later Hagler-Bailly and PA Consulting) in its energy practice, where he assisted corporations and governments with competition, privatization, and market design projects.
