Jeffery P. Langer Joins Osha Liang LLP's Washington Office

WASHINGTON and HOUSTON, May 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Intellectual property law firm Osha Liang LLP announced that new partner Jeffery P. Langer has joined the firm's relocated metro Washington, D.C. office.

Dr. Langer joined firm partner James Hopenfeld at the firm's office at 800 Diagonal Road, Suite 600, Alexandria, Virginia 22314. The office is located a short walk from United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

During the past decade, Dr. Langer has focused on counseling relative to management and value extraction of complex international IP portfolios. Prior to joining Osha Liang, he was Senior Patent Counsel at Philip Morris International in Neuchatel, Switzerland for nearly four years. During his time at Philip Morris, he managed the iQOS and Solaris product lines through their commercial launches in Europe and Asia. In this role, he regularly advised the senior management team on IP matters and supervised a team of patent professionals responsible for managing a multinational patent and design portfolio, post-grant challenges, technology acquisitions, and multicounty litigation matters.

He began his career at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, in Washington, where he gained substantial experience in patent procurement, portfolio management, and post grant challenges.

Dr. Langer has authored numerous publications on IP law, is a frequent invited lecturer on IP topics, and has taught postgraduate classes on intellectual property at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Remin University in China. He was a member of the Law Review during law school and received the Joseph H. Smith, Jr. Doctoral Thesis Prize for his Ph.D. research. During graduate school, he worked at Lucent Technologies (Bell Labs) in Murray Hill, New Jersey and the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., conducting research in the software and semiconductor technology areas.

Dr. Langer holds a J.D., cum laude, from the Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America. He holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also holds a B.S., Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.A., Urban Studies, from The College of Wooster.

He is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia and the USPTO. He speaks French and Mandarin Chinese.
