Jerusalem's Friends of Zion Museum Celebrates International Holocaust Remembrance Day with "Lights in the Darkness" Exhibit

Every year on January 27 the world commemorates the International Holocaust Remembrance day, to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism. The date, designated by the United Nations General Assembly marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau Camp.

In addition to serving as a date for the official commemoration of the victims of the Nazi regime, it is also a day to promote Holocaust education throughout the world and to reject any form of Holocaust denial.

Remembering the Holocaust is essential for future generations to learn about the past atrocities. The Friends of Zion Museum in Jerusalem takes part in remembering the Holocaust on a daily basis. The FOZ Museum present the "Lights in the Darkness" exhibit that tells the stories of the righteous among the nations - those whose faith and consciences drove them to save the lives of Jews, young and old, during the Holocaust in Europe. Heroes, only some of whom survived the horrors of the Nazi regime, who couldn't stand by and do nothing.

FOZ Museum set itself a target to teach and educate its visitors about the Nazi horrors and the amazing righteous among the nations who couldn't stand by. Using ground-breaking technology the "Lights in the Darkness" exhibit presents, in emotional, animated, black and white scenes, wartime horror and suffering on the one hand and untiring efforts towards rescue on the other. The exhibit presents the exceptional actions of Oskar Schindler of Germany, who used his influence with the Nazis to save the lives of slave labor Jews working in his factory; Irena Sendler, a Polish nurse who smuggled Jewish children out of the Warsaw ghetto, thereby rescuing them from certain death; the Ten Boom family of Holland, who hid Jews in their home and many more.
