Google Senior VP and CFO Patrick Pichette will be Featured Speaker
MENLO PARK, Calif., May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While unemployment nationally has dropped to 6.3%, and San Mateo County's average rate is 5%, the communities that JobTrain serves, East Palo Alto, east Menlo Park and North Fair Oaks, have unemployment rates from 10.6% -12%. JobTrain, a nonprofit organization that provides job training and placement, has a proven track record of helping its graduates obtain jobs in industries such as construction, health care, green technology and culinary arts. Since the organization started 49 years ago, it has served 185,000 community members.
In celebration of the success of JobTrain graduates who have turned their lives around, and to recognize community leaders for their outstanding contributions to JobTrain and society, JobTrain's BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS will be held on Friday, May 9th at 7:30 a.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.
The event creates an opportunity to share with the community JobTrain's accomplishments this year: serving over 8,000 people; placing 75% of JobTrain graduates in high paying jobs, and establishing partnerships with local businesses to hire more students.
This year the Employer Champion Award will be presented to FlagShip and Facebook, for their partnership in hiring JobTrain Culinary Arts Graduates, and CLP Resources, for hiring 30 JobTrain construction graduates over the last year. Brenda Villa, Olympic Gold Medalist U.S. Women's Water Polo will be honored with the Role Model Award.
The real champions at this Breakfast are JobTrain students who have beaten the odds to achieve success. JobTrain will proudly present the "Paul M. Cook Alumni Champion Award" to Juan Antonio Hernandez, Jr., a successful JobTrain graduate who has worked tirelessly to overcome great challenges. At the event Juan will share his journey from gang life to how he is now successfully employed. "I am so grateful to JobTrain for my success. I am proof that the programs at JobTrain works! I hope my story inspires others that transformations can happen."
