CARNEGIE, Pa., Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Friday, November 8th is a pivotal day for Johnstown and The Salvation Army.  Affordable, quality dental health is now within the grasp of Cambria county families.  The community will celebrate with a 10:00 AM dedication and community open house from 10:30 AM thru 12:00 Noon for the new The Salvation Army Dental Center.  "This will be an important day for Johnstown," said Major William Bode, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander.  "This project took a lot of planning and coordination and our staff is anxious to serve.  We are thankful that we have the capability to help address a community need to the best of our ability and resources."

The Johnstown Salvation Army Dental Center will operate on Fridays from 8:00 am through 4:00 pm from October 25 through mid-November with Dr. James Mancini, DMD, from The Salvation Army Oil City Dental Center.  Hours will expand as patient demand grows.  Several local clinical professionals have expressed an interest in volunteering services at the center.  "We welcome the community's involvement and encourage those interested in supporting us to call and get involved," said Major Joseph Pawlowski, Commanding Officer, Johnstown Salvation Army Worship and Service Center.

The Johnstown Salvation Army Dental Center is conveniently located near The Salvation Army's Worship and Service Center at 647 Main Street, Johnstown.  State-of-the-art dental health care provided at the Center will include such services as emergency assistance for alleviating pain, disfigurement and infection, as well as basic and preventive oral health care.  Additionally, the staff will work to provide outreach and support in the areas of preventive education, data collection and assessment, and grant writing.  Appointments may be made by calling 814-262-8500.

The creation of The Salvation Army Dental Center has been greeted with overwhelming support by the community and Lee Initiatives, Inc.  "We have been blessed by the generosity of our good friends from Lee Initiatives, Inc.," Major Joseph Pawlowski.  The ultimate goal of the facility is to become self-sustaining.  The Johnstown Salvation Army will rely on the support of local dental professionals and volunteers to secure grants, personal donations, and legacy funds.  As the program develops, there will be an opportunity to place earmarked funds from annuities and wills into investment reserves.
