Jones Walker Welcomes Housing Boutique Firm

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Jones Walker LLP announced today the expansion of its housing industry team with the addition of all of the members of the boutique law firm Liles & Rushin, LLC. Effective November 19, 2018, two new partners, Kelly Rushin Lewis and Brandon Hughey, along with their team of housing professionals will join Jones Walker's new Birmingham office. The firm also announced that Ms. Lewis will be the new leader of the firm's national housing industry team.

The Liles & Rushin firm is well known throughout the housing industry for its high level of knowledge representing investors and lenders in Low Income Housing Tax Credit matters around the country. Both Ms. Lewis and Mr. Hughey are committed to maintaining the outstanding and responsive service that they are known for and are excited about the opportunities and resources Jones Walker will add.

About Kelly Rushin Lewis
Ms. Lewis is Head of the firm's Housing Industry Team and is a partner in the Real Estate Practice Group. She focuses on all aspects of the representation of lenders and investors in connection with affordable housing transactions, including the use of traditional construction and permanent financing, federal and state tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, tax exempt loans, MTEBs, HOME loans, CDBG funds, HUD, RAD, AHP grants or loans, RD loans, and others.

She has also represented lenders and borrowers in secured and unsecured transactions, structured financing transactions, and multi-state transactions. She has represented various real estate clients through all phases of development, including acquisition, financing, leasing, and disposition in connection with hotel, retail, office, industrial, market rate housing, and affordable housing projects.

Ms. Lewis is a leader in the national affordable housing industry and currently serves as Chair-Elect for the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association's Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development. She will serve as Chair beginning in the fall of 2019. Prior to joining Jones Walker, Ms. Lewis co-founded the Liles & Rushin law firm and earlier in her career practiced with Maynard, Cooper & Gale. She earned her JD from the University of Alabama School of Law, magna cum laude, and she earned a B.S. from Georgetown University.

About Brandon Hughey
Mr. Hughey is a partner in the Tax Practice Group and a member of the Housing Industry Team. While he has advised clients in many aspects of federal and state taxation, Mr. Hughey's practice currently focuses on partnership taxation and the representation of lenders and investors in connection with affordable housing transactions using tax credits under Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code, federal and state housing and historic tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, tax-exempt loans, MTEBs, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debt, HOME loans, HUD, RAD, AHP grants or loans, USDA/RD loans, and other financing sources.

He has also represented clients in matters before the Internal Revenue Service and the Alabama Department of Revenue. Mr. Hughey has represented clients in tax and real estate cases in the United States District Court, Alabama state courts, and the Alabama Supreme Court. He has also advised businesses on tax and corporate business formation, acquisitions, mergers, and dispositions.

Mr. Hughey earned an LLM in Taxation with honors from Northwestern School of Law, a JD from the University of Alabama School of Law, and a B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Samford University.
