NEW YORK, July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- J.P. Morgan Asset Management – Global Real Assets today announced the appointment of Adam Pillay as Real Estate Asia Pacific Platform Specialist. Mr. Pillay is responsible for advising institutional investors on Asia Pacific real estate investing, as well as forging strong client relationships across a global real assets platform with $84 billion in assets under management and leadership positions in real estate, infrastructure and maritime investing. Mr. Pillay brings more than a decade of experience at real assets investment firms, including the CIM Group and Macquarie Capital. Based in New York, he reports to Doug Doughty, Global Head of Business Development, Global Real Assets, J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
With one of the broadest real estate footprints in the region, J.P. Morgan Global Real Assets' Asia Pacific real estate platform has nearly 50 professionals, offices in five cities across Asia Pacific, and investment strategies across the risk/return spectrum from core to opportunistic. The platform covers 90% of the investable real estate market in Asia Pacific.
"Institutional investors are turning to real assets in larger numbers and with greater allocations, as they seek less correlated asset classes to remedy the domestic bias in their portfolios," said Mr. Doughty. "As the allocations grow larger, Adam's expertise in advising clients on real estate and deep understanding of real asset investing will help investors access the benefits of adding Asia Pacific real estate to a diversified real estate portfolio."
"Investors in developed markets have long since diversified their public equity exposures, with approximately 55% allocated to international equities on average. However, real estate allocations among these same investors indicate a major domestic bias and sacrifice the much-needed diversification that Asia Pacific real estate exposure can provide," said Mr. Pillay.
Mr. Pillay was most recently at CIM, where he worked closely with global institutional investors to capitalize opportunistic, core and debt real estate and infrastructure funds, co-investments and separate accounts. Earlier in his career, he was a vice president within the Real Estate Private Capital Markets group at Macquarie where he provided M&A, private placement advisory and capital raising services to specialist real estate operators, primarily across the Asia Pacific and North American regions. Mr. Pillay received a Bachelor of Science, genetics and biotechnology, and a Masters of Commerce, international finance, from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
