jscreen, TODAY Show & Mount Sinai Unite for Groundbreaking Cancer Genetic Screening Event in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- To honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, jscreen.org, a national nonprofit that provides accessible genetic testing, partnered with Myriad Genetics and Mount Sinai Cancer Center, hosted a historic event on Rockefeller Plaza: Pink Power Hour. Here, 350 participants gathered for the most people ever to sign up for genetic screening in one hour.
Due to the generosity of jscreen's funders and Mount Sinai's supporters, the 350 hereditary cancer screening tests were fully covered for participants who registered on-site at the TODAY Show Plaza.
This initiative cast a powerful national spotlight on the importance of genetic testing, prevention, and early detection. By arming people with knowledge about their inherited cancer risks it underscored how proactive health decisions can prevent cancer and save lives.
The goal of this high-profile event was not only to gather hundreds to register for genetic cancer testing in one hour, but also to create a nationwide ripple effect, encouraging individuals and families everywhere to take advantage of hereditary cancer testing through jscreen.
With simple, at-home hereditary cancer test kits provided on site, jscreen empowers participants with life-saving knowledge about their genetic risks for cancer related to mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2, and dozens of other cancer genes. For jscreen, a nonprofit funded by donations and partnerships, this investment underscores a deep commitment to raising awareness about the power of genetic testing as a proactive health tool.
"Knowledge is power when it comes to health. We are proud to remove barriers and provide this opportunity during Breast Cancer Awareness Month," said Dr. Matt Goldstein, CEO of jscreen. "This monumental event, where 350 gathered in one location in one hour, allows us to demonstrate how one simple test can change and even save lives."
The event also featured breast cancer advocate and TODAY Show contributor Jill Martin, who has courageously shared her personal journey to highlight the importance of genetic testing and early detection, as well as Dr. Elisa Port, Chief Breast Surgeon at Mount Sinai. Together with TODAY, Mount Sinai, and Jill Martin, jscreen continues to turn pain into purpose, creating a movement of empowerment, prevention, and proactive health.
