June 21st Public Opinion Survey Release, Panel Discussion, and Reception: AIDS At 30, Where We Are Today, and What's Ahead

WASHINGTON, June 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, June 21st at 4:00 p.m. ET, the Kaiser Family Foundation will release a new survey of Americans' attitudes towards and experiences with the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and hold an event to discuss where we are today on the domestic AIDS epidemic and the challenges ahead.  AIDS At 30 will feature findings from new separate national and Washington, D.C. surveys, an update from the White House on the national HIV/AIDS strategy, and a distinguished panel discussion about confronting the epidemic in black America.  The event will also feature a new video timeline of the thirty year epidemic and a video highlighting Greater Than AIDS, a collaboration among a cross section of public and private sector partners that combines a national media campaign with targeted community outreach to respond to AIDS in America with a particular focus on communities most affected.

The event highlights include:

• Opening remarks from Kaiser Family Foundation President Drew Altman;
• A presentation of national and D.C. survey results with Mollyann Brodie, Senior Vice President and Director of Public Opinion and Survey Research for the Foundation, and Jon Cohen, Director of Polling for The Washington Post;
• An update on the national HIV/AIDS strategy from Jeff Crowley, Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy for The White House; and
• A video highlighting the Greater Than AIDS campaign presented by Foundation Senior Vice President Tina Hoff, followed by a panel discussion focused on the AIDS epidemic facing black America moderated by Darryl Fears, Health, Environment and Science Reporter for The Washington Post, and featuring Dr. Lisa Fitzpatrick, Associate Professor of Medicine, Howard University and Consultant and Senior Technical Advisor, D.C. Department of Health; Jen Kates, Foundation Vice President and Director, Global Health and HIV Policy The Honorable Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA 9th); Reverend Al Sharpton, President and Founder, National Action Network; and Phill Wilson, CEO and Founder, Black AIDS Institute.
