Kansas Department of Revenue Receives Document Security Excellence Award from the Coalition for a Secure Driver's License

WASHINGTON, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Coalition for a Secure Driver's License (CSDL), a national non-profit crime prevention educational public charity based in Washington, D.C., presented its Document Security Excellence award to the Kansas Department of Revenue.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback attended the ceremony, held yesterday, along with Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan and Director of Vehicles Donna Shelite who were present to receive the award.

CSDL's Document Security Excellence award recognizes the Department of Revenue's enhancements to its driver's license process including: Ultra-violet image of the cardholder's portrait and date of birth on the back of the card; multi-colored, highly detailed holograms; a highly detailed ultra-violet image of the state flower; two ghost images of the cardholder's portrait in addition to the conventional photograph; and tactile printing. These security features make it one of the most secure and difficult to counterfeit driver's licenses in the country.

"A fraudulent driver's license or ID card can be the initial building block for more serious crimes," said Director Shelite. "Our focus is to ensure that a person pictured on a Kansas driver's license or ID card is who the card says they are. We are pleased to see our efforts recognized on a national level."

CSDL also honored eight Department of Revenue members with a special certificate of achievement to commend their hard work. Each personalized certificate is in recognition for tremendous contributions to the Department processes which provide Kansas citizens with an exemplary means of reliable identification.

Kansas is one of nineteen states meeting federal driver's license security standards issued under Public Law 109-13.
