Katz and Wilpon Families Announce Organizational Restructuring of Sterling Equities After More Than 50 Years of Partnership
NEW YORK, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Equities ("Sterling"), the diversified investment firm with holdings primarily across real estate and sports media, announced a leadership transition that marks the next chapter in Sterling's more than 50-year history.
Founded in 1972 by Fred Wilpon and Saul B. Katz, Sterling has grown into a vertically integrated national real estate business. Over five decades, Sterling has built a reputation for long-term investing, operational excellence, and strong partnerships across its businesses and communities.
As part of the planned organizational transition by both parties, Sterling will move forward under the continued ownership and leadership of Sterling partners Saul B. Katz, Michael Katz, David Katz, Gregory Katz, Todd Katz, Bruce Wilpon, and Thomas Osterman. Fred Wilpon, Richard Wilpon and Scott Wilpon have moved on to pursue other ventures together.
The new organizational structure provides Sterling with renewed focus on future growth and establishes the next generation of leadership. Sterling's experienced team of professionals will remain in place, ensuring continuity across all business operations and strategic initiatives.
As part of the separation, a majority of Sterling's assets will be divided between Sterling and the exiting members of the Wilpon family. Several assets will remain jointly owned, including Sterling Project Development Group, ("SPD"), a full-service real estate development management and advisory firm.
Additional details regarding Sterling's future organizational structure and strategic initiatives will be announced in the coming months.
