Kelvin Johnson Named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month

SAN DIEGO, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelvin Johnson has been named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month for June 2017. While working at a plant nursery, Kelvin realized he needed to pursue his education to further his career. Although he held a bachelor of science in agriculture degree from Virginia State University, that degree did not fulfill Johnson. After speaking with an enrollment advisor from Ashford, Johnson enrolled in the master of business administration program and graduated from Ashford in 2014. Later that year, he accepted a supervisor position.

While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Johnson was never satisfied with the experience and had always felt he was attending school more so to please others rather than himself. Even after he graduated from Virginia State in 2003, Johnson was aware of the limitations of only having a bachelor's degree and knew that one day he would like to further his education.

Ashford's helpful staff and resources made the university appealing to Johnson. "Ashford definitely wanted to set you up in the best possible scenario to be successful, and my enrollment advisor was excellent in helping me to achieve my goal," said Johnson. "We spoke via email and phone once a week to discuss my career goals and objectives. She also helped me with my resume as well as my job interview skills."

When Johnson received his degree from Ashford, he felt a sense of personal accomplishment and increased confidence. Johnson not only landed a new job with his MBA degree, but also increased knowledge from his Ashford experience.

"It was so emotional for me when I received my MBA from Ashford because at that moment, I knew that I had done something for me," said Johnson. "I worked extremely hard to get this degree, and it finally paid off."
