Kemps® and Joe Mauer Team up for Minnesota Multi-Field Baseball Restoration Project

ST. PAUL, Minn., July 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kemps, St. Paul-based dairy and ice cream producer, has unveiled a new program focused on restoring youth baseball fields across Minnesota. Kemps will donate 10 cents for every Joe Mauer milk and ice cream product sold, to the Local Heroes for Local Fields program up to $100,000 through September 30, 2012.

To kick off the initiative, on July 27, Joe and Teresa Mauer will be working on the restoration of the Edgcumbe baseball field, a local St. Paul baseball field in need of restoring. As the Local Heroes for Local Fields program expands, fields in Duluth, Rochester and St. Cloud will also be considered for restoration.

"My roots are in St. Paul and it's great to be kicking off this program in the area where I used to play baseball, with a local company I grew up with," said Joe Mauer. "Playing youth baseball was a big part of my life and taught me important lifelong lessons. It's an honor to work with Kemps to give local kids that same opportunity I had playing baseball as a kid."  

Joe and Teresa will be working alongside volunteers to help replace well-worn bases and fencing, help with new dugouts and more. Joe will also be hosting a catching and hitting clinic with some lucky local baseball players – not only providing tips for on the field but also talking with them about what he's learned about life off the field through his involvement with community sports.
