Kennedys' "Camelot" Era Items And Rare Album Of 31 Presidential Signatures At Potomack Company Auction On November 5
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A Potomack Company tradition returns as the Virginia auction house marks the 2016 Presidential Election with the sale of antiques, documents and decorative art from two John F. Kennedy family residences along with a rare autograph collection of 31 presidential signatures at its Presidential, Historical and Political Auction on November 5.
Every four years at Election time The Potomack Company offers a patriotic selection of politically-themed items, highlighted this year by furnishings personally selected by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy for the beloved Washington, DC, house that was home to the family before John F. Kennedy was elected president. Items from the Kennedys' Georgetown house include a glass chandelier that held special meaning to Mrs. Kennedy ("my sweet little chandelier"), a garden fountain, wall sconces, personal papers, handwritten notes and the deed of sale signed by President and Mrs. Kennedy upon their move to the White House.
During their White House years, the Kennedys leased Glen Ora, a 400-acre horse farm near Middleburg, VA, to enjoy as a private weekend getaway where Mrs. Kennedy could ride her horses and the family could relax in an atmosphere of country glamour in a house decorated to reflect the First Lady's fondness for French provincial antiques. Potomack's sale of Glen Ora furnishings includes the 18th Century carved oak bed in which President Kennedy slept, two Louis XV parquetry commodes from the room Mrs. Kennedy used as her bedroom, and other 18th and 19th Century French and English paintings and antiques.
