Kenneth Rainin Foundation Announces Grant Opportunity for IBD-Related Scientific Research
February 15 Deadline for Letters of Inquiry for Innovator Awards; Grants Support Projects That Have Potential to Advance Research and Patient Impact for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Kenneth Rainin Foundation will accept Letters of Inquiry online for its Innovator Awards program from January 15 through February 15, 2018. The Foundation encourages scientists worldwide to pursue unconventional ideas to advance Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research, and improve prediction and prevention.
"Our goal is to have a significant impact on the lives of IBD patients," said Dr. Laura Wilson, Director of Health Strategy and Ventures at the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. "Funding groundbreaking ideas in the early stages gives us the best chance of discovering breakthroughs that will transform patient outcomes."
Starting this year, researchers from any scientific discipline at both non-profit and for-profit institutions can apply for the Innovator Award. The grant amount will increase to up to $200,000 to support one-year research projects. Recipients who demonstrate significant progress in their first year may receive up to two additional years of support.
"We want to enable early-career and seasoned researchers to think big, take smart risks, and push the boundaries of their work," said Wilson. "The increased funding opens opportunities for higher quality resources and meaningful collaborations to help research advance along the spectrum from discovery science to direct patient impact."
Letters of Inquiry are accepted through the Foundation's online application system. Applicants selected by the Foundation's panel of scientific advisors will be invited to submit a full proposal by May 21, 2018. The Foundation will host its seventh annual Innovations Symposium on July 16-17, 2018 in San Francisco. This event brings together scientific leaders, trainees, researchers and clinicians from around the world to encourage dialogue and advance the understanding of IBD.
This year's event will focus on basic science and patient impact, and will feature speakers working both within and outside of IBD research, as well as Rainin Foundation grantees.
