KEXP Returns To Reykjavik For The Iceland Airwaves Music Festival

SEATTLE, Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- KEXP in cooperation with Iceland Naturally announced today its return to the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland for a series of live broadcasts at Kex Hostel hosted by DJ's Cheryl Waters and Kevin Cole October 30, 31 and November 1 6am to 2pm PST. This will be the fifth time KEXP has broadcast from the festival as part of its mission to discover and champion new artists and new music. KEXP's past involvement in the festival single handedly brought increased attention to relatively unknown acts such as Of Monsters and Men, Asgeir, and Soley leading to international recognition of these artists and the vibrant music community of Iceland.

KEXP's Iceland Airwaves broadcast will feature live on-air performances from 15 artists playing at this year festival including Emiliana Torrini, Asgeir and John Grant among many others.

In addition to the broadcast, the KEXP team will conduct approximately 15-20 field recording sessions with Icelandic artists throughout Reykjavik. Videos of these exclusive performances will be produced and shared online at KEXP.org later in November 2013.

Expect the unexpected, in addition to featuring the great musicians of Iceland, KEXP has hosted such luminaries as olafur Ragnar Grimsson, the President of Iceland, and Jon Gnarr, the  Mayor of Reykjavik, who have previously stopped by the broadcast booth to chat with KEXP listeners and share their love of Icelandic music!

The Iceland Airwaves broadcast is a joint project of KEXP and Iceland Naturally. They're presented by KEXP in partnership with KEX Hostel, the City of Reykjavik, Icelandair, Iceland Airwaves, 66° North, Blue Lagoon, Icelandic Glacial Water, and Reyka Vodka.
