TORONTO, July 13, 2015 /CNW/ - With Canadian kids scoring a D- in overall physical activity in the 2015 ParticipACTION Report Card,* Kids' CBC hit series The Moblees is encouraging kids and families across Canada to get up and move with a live summer tour and innovative, free app featuring audio sync technology. Integrating a holistic approach to healthy, active living including non-sedentary behaviours, physical activity and nutrition, The Moblees (30 x 11-minutes) is a new live-action interactive musical adventure series for young children that airs weekdays at 8am (8:30am NT) on Kids' CBC.

In partnership with live children's entertainment programming producer Kidomo, The Moblees Super Summer Movin' Tour includes over 35 appearances in markets across Canada including Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Charlottetown. At each appearance, kids and families can get up and move during a live, interactive musical performance by The Moblees; attend meet and greets with the characters; play in The Moblees Activity Tent; and earn special collectable Moblee Medals for participating. Now available for free download in the App Store in Canada, The Moblees app for iPad is a second-screen experience that puts young kids right in the middle of the colourful 3D world of The Moblees. When launched by a parent or caregiver, the app uses innovative audio technology to recognize when an episode of The Moblees is airing and syncs with the series in real time, starting a countdown to the moment when it's time to get up and moving. Parents and caregivers can then record their child's Moblee moves using the iPad camera, creating a one-of-a-kind Appisode video featuring their child moving with their favourite characters from the series. Appisodes can be replayed an unlimited number of times. The app also features parental lock settings and no in-app purchases for a safe, fun experience for both kids and caregivers. Produced by award-winning digital studio Smokebomb Entertainment, The Moblees app is funded by The TELUS Fund and Kids' CBC.
Featuring fun moves, memorable music and catchy lyrics, The Moblees turns viewers into doers by getting kids up and into the action through playful participation. The television series stars five loveable characters who – along with doers at home - overcome obstacles through teamwork and movement: feisty Bailey Butterfly (Shannon Hamilton); her spontaneous younger brother, Carlin Caterpillar (Scott Farley); brainy perfectionist Gisbert Grasshopper (Chris George); tail-waggity optimist Dasha Dog (Michelle Bouey); and super smooth Sylvio Snake (Matthew Nethersole). Kids from around the world also share their own Moblee moves in the series.
Each episode features a movement-centric, song-driven adventure that culminates in the awarding of a Moblee Medal, rewarding kids for moving with the episode and participating in healthy, active living.
As a multiplatform "MOVEMENT Movement," The Moblees also extends the experience beyond the television screen and app to include online activities for kids at kidscbc.ca/moblees and healthy tips and recipes for parents and caregivers at cbc.ca/parents as well as outreach appearances in Canada. The Moblees and Kids' CBC are also partnering with ParticipACTION to share information and explore additional outreach opportunities through the organization's network of 3,400 community organizations across the country.
The series' curriculum is advised by a team of esteemed experts including Kids' CBC Developmental Psychologist Dr. Lynn Oldershaw; Dr. Mark Tremblay, Chief Advisor for non-sedentary behaviors and physical activity, Director of Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research (HALO) at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa; Dr. James Mandigo, Professor and Interim Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University and co-founder of Brock's Centre for Healthy Development; and Mary Savoye-DeSanti, RD, CD-N, CDE, a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and Associate Director of Pediatric Obesity at Yale University, School of Medicine.
The Moblees originated and continues as a live family show that is performed in Canada, the United States and around the world. The Moblees is produced by Boulevard and Shaftesbury in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Ohmland Holdings and William Kohane, and is based on the theatrical production "The Ohmies" by Laurie Miller and Benjamin Tollefson.
