NEW YORK, Aug. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kids Foot Locker, part of Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL), the New York-based specialty athletic retailer, today debuts a new commercial starring NBA star Chris Paul in support of the back-to-school season. Timed to hit the airwaves just as students and parents are stocking up on fresh gear for the new school year, the commercial features Paul capturing photos of himself with future NBA and WNBA talent in a clever twist on the modern trend of fans taking pictures with famous athletes.
Paul, widely known by fans, media and fellow athletes as CP3, is seen on the court with kids sporting brand new Jordan gear from Kids Foot Locker. After seeing the kids in their new gear, Paul is convinced these young athletes have what it takes to make it in the NBA and WNBA one day. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to capture a photo of himself with these future stars, Paul takes 'selfies' with each of them and humorously declines a request from someone who doesn't quite have the same future star power.
"As summer winds down, back-to-school shopping is in full force," said Stacy Cunningham, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Foot Locker. "Like every year, Kids Foot Locker is ready to welcome students back with the most popular styles and gear so they can look and feel their best."
"Fans are always stopping me and asking to take pictures with me, so I thought the concept of this commercial was unique and funny," said Chris Paul. "It's a great way to show that Kids Foot Locker can help students and athletes look and feel their best as they prepare for a new school year and new athletic seasons."
The new spot was produced by BBDO and begins airing on August 8 on Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney XD. The spot can also be viewed at youtube.com/footlocker.
