SAN FRANCISCO, March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, announced today it won an order to provide 12 elevators and 26 escalators in the Moscone Center Expansion project. The expansion will increase the capacity of San Francisco's premier meeting and exhibition space.
The Moscone Center covers nearly a full city block and is one of the world's busiest convention centers. Home to hundreds of world-class events, the sprawling facility serves as many as 1.1 million visitors annually. The expansion plans to meet the needs of the growing city by expanding exhibition space and increasing the amount of flexible meeting and ballroom spaces.
KONE solutions will include a total of seven KONE MonoSpace® elevators, two KONE EcoSystem MR® elevators, one KONE EcoSpace® elevator, two freight elevators and 26 KONE TravelMaster™ 110 escalators. The elevators and escalators will be installed in two phases and the center will remain fully operational throughout the entire expansion project, expected to be completed in 2018.
A strong standing relationship and commitment to design assist, including competitive bid pricing with the Moscone Center project team helped KONE win this project, as six KONE EcoMod™ escalators were installed in the center in 2003, marking the first KONE EcoMod™ units to be installed in the U.S. Another four KONE EcoMod™ escalators were installed in 2011 and four elevators were modernized. The installation of KONE's latest energy efficient elevators and escalators today will assist in the center's pursuit of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
