KRWQ Outlines Vision for the Future of the Korean Won in Global Digital Markets

As Korea moves to internationalize the won and expand its use outside the country, KRWQ believes blockchain-based financial infrastructure can complement these efforts by making KRW more accessible to global institutions and investors. EDX Markets, a Citadel backed exchange, has listed KRWQ as the first non-USD stablecoin with both perpetual and spot listings. KRWQ is listed on EDX Markets' US-based spot trading venue and the stablecoin perpetual futures contract is listed on EDXM International.

KRWQ's immediate focus is the offshore Korean won market, particularly the non-deliverable forward (NDF) market used by international institutions to trade and hedge KRW exposure. Today, a significant share of global KRW trading takes place outside Korea through financial centers including London, Singapore and Hong Kong.

KRWQ aims to bring these markets onchain, enabling 24/7 access to KRW-denominated liquidity and creating new infrastructure for FX trading, hedging, settlement and eventually tokenized Korean assets.

The Korean government has taken a series of steps to make the won more accessible internationally, improving access for foreign financial institutions and developing a broader roadmap for the internationalization of the currency.
