Lahey Health Sustains a Healthy Data Network with Comcast Business

BOSTON, Feb. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Business today announced that Lahey Health, an integrated health care system in northeastern Massachusetts, implemented Comcast Business Ethernet network services across more than 60 locations. The network empowers Lahey Health to coordinate patient care and electronic health records (EHRs) across facilities.

Lahey Health is comprised of hospitals, physicians, behavioral health services, and post-acute programs including home health services, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, and senior care resources. The health care system includes nearly 1,400 locally based physicians throughout northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

Lahey Health serves thousands of patients daily through ambulatory care centers, hospital facilities, 24-hour emergency departments and a trauma center. Due to the extensive system and number of locations, the team enlisted the assistance of its technology consultant, ROI Communications, to assist with coordinating a unified network and services.

Comcast Business provides Lahey Health with three Ethernet Network Service (ENS) hubs in Beverly, Burlington and Winchester that connect more than 60 doctor offices and facilities with capacity ranging from 100 Megabits-per-second (Mbps) to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps). Additionally, Lahey Health uses four 1 Gbps and two 10 Gbps Ethernet Private Lines (EPLs) to connect larger off-site medical centers and IT facilities. Finally, Comcast Business provides backup connections to Lahey facilities via Business Internet services.

With the connected infrastructure, Lahey Health clinicians are able to share EHRs and images across locations in addition to managing patient schedules, billing and connecting to the wider internet. The increased network capacity allows Lahey Health to deploy same-day virus protection and provide voice recognition for dictating patient records and other applications.
