LAKEWOOD, Calif., March 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lakewood Regional Medical Center is proud to participate in National Doctor's Day on March 30, 2017. The physicians who consistently serve in the public's best healthcare interests are given special recognition on this day by medical facilities, public officials and private citizens.

The significance of March 30 dates back to 1842 when the first anesthetic was administered to a patient. Doctor's Day has been nationally recognized since 1958 and was signed into law in 1991 by President George Bush who said, "Common to the experience of each of them, from the specialist in research to the general practitioner, are hard work, stress, and sacrifice. All those Americans who serve as licensed physicians have engaged in years of study and training, often at great financial cost. Most endure long and unpredictable hours, and many must cope with the conflicting demands of work and family life."
Traditionally, Doctors' Day has been recognized by giving doctors a red carnation. Decades ago, the carnation was symbolic of healing, health and vitality, making it the perfect choice for the flower of Doctors' Day.
