LANES Named Qualified Health Information Organization by California Health and Human Services

Los Angeles' only regional health information organization receives designation for meeting the highest standards of health information sharing in alignment with California's Data Exchange Framework

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles Network of Enhanced Services (LANES), the first and only regional health information organization (HIO) for the greater Los Angeles area, today announced California Health and Human Services (CalHHS) has named it a Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO). This qualification signifies that by joining LANES, healthcare organizations meet the requirements of the state's Data Exchange Framework (DxF). The DxF defines health data sharing standards for most of the state's healthcare organizations and is designed to help every resident in the state benefit from seamlessly coordinated care and services, regardless of where they live or receive care.

According to the state's QHIO program manager, the Center for Data Insights and Innovation (CDII), the designation has only been granted to organizations that demonstrate service completeness, technical and programmatic capabilities, and appropriate organizational structure.

California's Health and Human Services (CalHHS) has additionally created a grant program for organizations that have agreed to participate in the DxF, which is called the DSA Signatory Grants Program. The program will disburse $47 million in grants, with recipients able to either fund partnerships with QHIOs like LANES, or pursue resources essential for progressing operational, technical, and technology initiatives required to successfully implement the DxF. The third round of grant funding is now seeking applications before the December 15 deadline.

LANES currently supports 10 million lives and manages over half a billion transactions annually. LANES' services are used by leading hospitals, health systems, health plans, behavioral health services, and providers. Today, it has hundreds of participants in its network, which also delivers access to information from community clinics, ambulatory practices, public health, and social service organizations. It improves healthcare delivery by making actionable patient information available at the point of care when and where it is needed safely and securely.
