Great Performances Takes Annual Holiday Tradition to New Brooklyn Location for 8th Edition
NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Great Performances, the highly acclaimed New York City catering company, will present the 8th Annual Latke Festival, one of the city's most deliciously fun yearly tasting events, on Monday, December 19, 2016 at a new location, the Brooklyn Museum. What has become a beloved city-wide holiday tradition will showcase the potato pancake's scrumptious versatility with 20-plus interpretations by top chefs, from the classic to the decadently imaginative. Popular Latke Festival veterans such as Jimmy's No. 43, Veselka, Jacob's Pickles, Shelsky's of Brooklyn, Ben's Deli will return this year, joined in the museum's stunning glass enclosed lobby pavilion by newcomers like Burger & Lobster, Samui and Tessa.
Offerings at the eighth edition of this perennially popular celebratory event in which participating chefs compete for two coveted Best Latke Awards, will include: Sweet Potato with Duck Confit, Plantain, Queso Blanco, Guajilo Chili from Tessa; Bustan's Potato Latke with Labane and Caviar; Baz Bagel & Restaurant's Latkes Dill-Luxe, Joyce's Famous Latkes, with Gravlax, Sour Cream and Dill; Jerk Chicken Latke with Mint and Mango Chutney from BB King Blues Club & Grill; and Casava Latke, Jamaican Style Oxtail and Coconut Yogurt by the Brooklyn Museum's The Norm.
Attendees will vote to decide Best Latke "People's Choice" Award, while a panel of influencers and food will determine Best Latke "Judges' Choice." This year's panel includes Alicia Glen, deputy mayor of the City of New York; novelist and host of Studio 360 Kurt Anderson; David Berliner, the Brooklyn Museum's president and COO; Katz's Deli owner Jake Dell; Angela Moore from the Food Network; Arthur Bovino, managing editor of Mouth.com; senior food editor of Nation's Restaurant News, Bret Thorn; and Channaly Philipp, Epoch Taste's managing editor.
Proceeds from the 8th Annual Latke Festival will benefit The Sylvia Center, www.sylviacenter.org, a non-profit dedicated to teaching young people about healthy cooking and eating through hands-on garden to-table programs.
Festival goers will be able to toast their benevolent support of The Sylvia Center and to the winning latkes with a variety or liquid refreshment from partners such as Tito's Vodka and City Winery.
The 8th Annual Latke Festival will be produced by Great Performances in partnership with sponsors such as Capital One, Cabot, Green Mountain Energy, Total Entertainment, Botanica, and Taylor Creative.
Tickets are $70, including unlimited latke tastings; wine, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages are also included.
