Layered Tech's Steve Chu to Judge Electronic Transactions Association's "Innovator of the Year"

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Layered Tech executive Steve Chu has been invited to judge the annual E-Pay Innovation Award at the Electronic Transactions Association's (ETA) Transact 14 conference and expo in Las Vegas.

The competition, held at the association's tradeshow April 8 – 10, awards a $50,000 prize to the conference exhibitor with the most innovative electronic payment technology or product that can be used to expand digital financial services in underserved communities around the world. The prize is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Chu, a regional sales manager for the compliance-focused, secured cloud and hosting company, has been a regular attendee and judge at ETA events in the past, which promote digital transaction technologies and identify innovative startups that aim to change the financial transaction system. Chu and his fellow judges have narrowed the field down to six potential companies which will be announced prior to the event.

In addition to judging the technology competition, Chu helped assemble content for a Bitcoin panel discussion addressing the cryptocurrency's potential threats and opportunities to the payment industry. The panel will include Coalfire CEO Rick Dakin and will be moderated by Jonathan Shieber, TechCrunch.com senior editor.

The event will be held at the Mandalay Bay, and portions of the conference will be broadcast live from CNBC. Layered Tech will exhibit at booth #928.
