Leaders from Biomet, Covance, Lilly, Medco Join BioCrossroads Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Reflecting the continued growth and business diversity of Indiana's life sciences sector, BioCrossroads today announced the election of four new industry leaders to its Board of Directors:

• Richard P. Jones II, Vice President and General Manager, Medco Health Solutions, Inc.
• Dr. Jan Lundberg, Executive Vice President, Science and Technology and President of Lilly Research Laboratories, Eli Lilly and Company
• Jon C. Serbousek, President, Biomet Orthopedics
• Deborah L. Tanner, Corporate Senior Vice President and President, Central Laboratory Services, Covance

Richard P. Jones II heads the Whitestown-based operations of Medco, currently building the world's largest and most advanced automated pharmaceutical distribution facility in central Indiana, which will include the Medco Therapeutic Resource Center® (TRC) for oncology patients and a Personalized Medicine Research Center.  A seasoned veteran with more than 20 years of Medco pharmacy experience, Jones most recently led the growth of Medco's Las Vegas automated dispensing pharmacy as Vice President and General Manager.  

Dr. Jan Lundberg was recently named Executive Vice President, Science and Technology and President, Lilly Research Laboratories.  Previously, Dr. Lundberg served as Executive Vice President, Global Discovery Research at AstraZeneca, where he was instrumental in delivering more than 150 drug candidates to the company's pipeline.  At AstraZeneca, Dr. Lundberg had responsibility for discovery research and supported clinical development of potential therapies for cancer, infection, central nervous system disorders, pain, cardiovascular, metabolic and respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal conditions, and inflammation.  Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Lundberg worked as a researcher and professor at Sweden's world-renowned Karolinska Institute, where he earned his Ph.D., and was a member of the Swedish Medical Research Council. During his career, Dr. Lundberg has won a variety of research awards and he is also an often-cited author in the areas of biology and biochemistry, pharmacology and neuroscience research.

A 26-year veteran of the orthopedics industry, Jon Serbousek was appointed President of Biomet Orthopedics, the U.S. joint reconstruction division of Biomet, Inc., a global leader in developing innovative solutions for musculoskeletal disorders, in March 2008.  In this role, he leads Biomet's efforts in continuing the success and growth of the U.S. total joint reconstruction business based in Warsaw, Ind.  Prior to joining Biomet, Serbousek spent eight years at Medtronic's Spinal and Biologics business in diverse general management roles in the areas of Spinal Reconstruction, International, New Technology Development and Biologics Therapies.  Prior to Medtronic, Serbousek spent 13 years with DePuy Orthopedics, holding Senior Functional or General Management positions in Joint Reconstruction, Spinal Operations, and Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine as well as a series of Engineering Management and Product Development roles.

Deborah L. Tanner has served as Covance's Corporate Senior Vice President since February 2006.  During her tenure, Covance has continued to grow its Indianapolis-based Global Central Laboratory Services operations, now the largest in the world.  In 2008, Covance acquired the entire Greenfield, Ind. pre-clinical development operations of Eli Lilly and Company, in what remains one of the largest strategic partnership transactions ever completed between a major pharmaceutical company and a contract research organization.  Prior to her time in Indianapolis, Tanner served as Covance's Global Vice President of Operations in Central Laboratory Services and as Vice President - Analytical Services for Covance Laboratories - Europe.  Tanner has been with Covance for over 20 years in positions of increasing responsibility.
