The number of impacted online stores is estimated to be between 200,000 and 240,000 and collectively generate billions of dollars in gross merchandise volume (GMV), according to published reports. This comes on the heels of an FBI warning in October 2019 around eSkimming and the effort taken by criminals to exploit eCommerce security leaks.
According to a 2019 Trustwave report, there have been nearly 50,000 compromised eCommerce sites since 2015, the majority of which have been targeted at those on the Magento platform. Without security patches and fixes from Magento beginning this summer, there is reason to believe that this number will significantly increase.
