Legacy Appoints American Heart Association Chief Executive Officer Nancy Brown To Board Of Directors

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Legacy welcomes Nancy Brown, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Heart Association (AHA), to its Board of Directors. With her commitment to improving public health and disease prevention, Brown brings with her an extensive background to the Legacy board and its mission to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit.

Since 2009, Brown has led the AHA to significant advances. She has focused successfully on prevention and improving cardiovascular health, creating the Vision for Volunteerism initiative. She has also developed the organization's first-ever integrated global strategy, launching new programs to increase revenue and mission impact in small communities and expanding individual giving and major gifts.

Brown joined AHA in 1986, and prior to being named CEO, she held multiple leadership roles including eight years as Chief Operating Officer, serving as the Executive Director in Metro Detroit, and working as the Executive Vice President of the former Massachusetts and New England Affiliates.

Brown extends her dedication to improving the health of individuals in the United States and globally by additionally serving on the Boards of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the National Health Council, Research!America, and the Partnership for Prevention. She is chairman-elect of the National Health Council and co-chairman of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care, and serves as a member of the Qualcomm Life Advisory Board, the Corporate Advisory Board of the Healthcare Business Association, and the Faster Cures Advisory Council for the Research Acceleration and Innovation Network.

Before her career with AHA, Brown served as Director of Development and Deputy Director of the Endowment Campaign for the Michigan Cancer Foundation and as the Special Events Director for Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit.
