Legendary Entertainment-Industry Veteran, Craig T. Rumar, Passes Away at 85

Craig Tennyson Rumar was born July 27, 1932 in San Francisco, and grew up in Los Angeles where he graduated from Los Angeles High School. He later attended the Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad, Calif. and USC. In the 1970s through the mid 1980s, Craig and his business partner, Lawrence (Larry) Kubik, developed a highly successful Hollywood talent agency called Film Artists Management Enterprises (FAME) which was responsible for starting the acting careers of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Craig and Larry were instrumental in bringing the first Rocky movie starring Sylvester Stallone to the big screen. Serving as Mr. Stallone's agent as writer and actor, Rumar and Kubik negotiated and packaged the deal with Chartoff-Winkler Productions and United Artists. To date, Rocky remains one of the most profitable films in movie history.

Craig also guided and mentored Arnold Schwarzenegger as he transitioned from professional body building to a successful acting career. Craig negotiated the deal for Mr. Schwarzenegger to star in Conan the Barbarian, the film that launched his career in Hollywood. Many other actors, writers, and directors were represented by Craig during his career, including Jon Voight, Peter Fonda, Jack Lord, Kevin Dobson, Jack Starrett, Fred Dryer, Ivan Dixon and Chuck Bail.

In the mid 1980s Craig focused his career on writing and production of feature films. Craig was responsible for bringing several movies to the big screen to include Escape From El Diablo and Instant Justice that starred Michael Pare and Tawny Kitaen, which was released by Warner Brothers. Following these film successes Craig continued to write screenplays and worked tirelessly to promote and package films based on his works. As of his death, Craig had written over 25 screenplays.

Craig was a great family man who dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy Rumar of Athens, as well as two children (Christopher and Bentley, husband Andrew Rogers), his sister (Joanna Sullivan), his ex-wife (Kerstin), and four grandchildren.
