Legendary Packers Player Willie Davis To Appear At Ashwaubenon Shopko For Book Signing

GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Shopko announces that legendary Green Bay Packers player Willie Davis will make a rare public appearance at the Shopko store located at Bay Park Square Mall in Ashwaubenon from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012.  Fans will have the opportunity to meet Davis and have him sign his new autobiography "Closing the Gap."  Although it won't be on sale elsewhere until October 1, customers will be able to purchase the book at Shopko during this special event. 

Davis, who played offensive tackle, was originally a 15^th round draft choice by the Cleveland Browns in 1958.  Two years later, famed Green Bay Coach Vince Lombardi traded for Davis and moved him to defense, launching the career of one of the greatest defensive ends in NFL history.  Willie Davis went on to earn All-Pro honors five times and was selected to five Pro Bowls, while being a key member of all five of Lombardi's NFL Championship teams in the 1960s. 

Davis played in Green Bay for 10 seasons, appearing in 138 consecutive regular season games and Super Bowls I and II before being named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1960s.  His 21 career fumble recoveries remain an all-time record in Packers team history.  Davis was named to the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981 and served on the Packers' Board of Directors from 1994-2005.
