Leidos Awarded Contracts by Department of Veterans Affairs

RESTON, Va., March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a national security, health and engineering solutions company, today announced three contract wins from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help the agency maximize operational efficiencies, reduce healthcare costs, and improve veteran care. The majority of the work for all three programs, collectively totaled at $16 million, will be performed in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Chicago, Ill., and Salt Lake City, Utah.

The first two contracts were awarded by the VA's Office of Information & Technology, Product Development.  Under the task orders, Leidos will provide IT related services to the Blood Bank Program and program management services to the My HealtheVet (MHV) program. These include maintenance and support to Legacy Veterans Integrated System Technology Architecture (VistA) Blood Bank v5.2, VistA Blood Establishment Computer Software, and interface support to maintain communications with other VistA or vendor applications. Maintenance and support ensure these applications continue to provide effective support to clinicians in delivering patient care, laboratory staff in providing safe blood transfusions, meeting blood bank regulatory agency requirements, and required hospital reporting services. The MHV program provides an eHealth portal where veterans can view and manage their personal health record online in a secure environment, as well as access health information, health assessments, and electronic services online. Specific support that Leidos will provide includes project management, technical writing, project documentation, strategic planning, schedule management, and risk management.

Leidos was also awarded a subcontract by By Light Professional IT Services to provide technical development support to the VA's Repositories Program, which supports integrated, computable, and viewable access to VA patients' electronic health records. The program accesses, stores, and integrates administrative and clinical data from all VistA sites across the VA healthcare systems. It also accesses and provides administrative and clinical patient-centric data to systems external to the VA such as the Department of Defense (DoD).

The VA's Repositories Program is pivotal in meeting President Obama's Healthcare Initiative for sharing patient data between the VA, DoD, and other external agencies. The program's data services and databases of administrative and clinical patient health record information provide opportunities to the VA and serve as a source for the exchange of interoperable health record data between the DoD and the VA.
