LG Electronics Receives Approvals For Bergen County Building Project
Company Prepares to Proceed with Construction Project For Eco-Friendly North American Headquarters Campus
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Aug. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Approvals from state, county and local agencies set the stage for LG Electronics to proceed with construction of its new North American headquarters campus in Englewood Cliffs.
LG Electronics USA announced today that the company has received approvals for the project from the New Jersey State Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection. LG also has received approvals from the Bergen County Planning Board and the Englewood Cliffs Zoning Board.
In addition to the government approvals, the LG project has been recognized with a "2012 Achievement in Planning Award" by the New Jersey Planning Officials organization, reflecting the new building's iconic design and cutting-edge environmental aspects.
LG Electronics USA is making final preparations to construct a 493,167-square-foot office building on a 27-acre lot at 111 Sylvan Avenue. The project, expected to earn LEED Gold and ENERGY STAR certifications, incorporates an iconic, eco-friendly design in a park-like setting that minimizes its visual impact on the neighborhood.
The plan includes substantial open space and expansive green buffers with mature plantings of trees and shrubs along its borders to the south and north to provide a large physical separation from nearby residences and adjacent property owners. This project, with its environmentally state-of-the-art design, is estimated to reduce the carbon footprint by 30 to 35 percent.
The multi-year construction project is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs in Bergen County and other employment opportunities in the region. The company said the only thing holding back the start of the project is a lawsuit brought by two residents who did not attend any local hearings on the project and who live miles from the site. Judge Alexander H. Carver III set a trial date of Sept. 21, in Hackensack. LG Electronics USA expects to prevail in the case.
