Liberty Tire Recycling Presents 'Recycle ATLANTA: 2011' Event to Explore Options for Greener Roadways, Parks, Playgrounds and Schools

PITTSBURGH, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Liberty Tire Recycling, the premier provider of tire recycling services in North America, will highlight eco-friendly, sustainable civil engineering solutions May 24, 2011 with an all-day event called Recycle ATLANTA: 2011.  The dual-session program will gather transportation and environmental professionals, civic leaders and policy-makers to experience new applications for recycled rubber, including rubber modified asphalt, and to tour the Liberty Tire Recycling plant on Huber Street.

A technical session in the morning will focus on rubber modified asphalt for civil engineering applications.  Along with experts from Liberty Tire Recycling, the Georgia Department of Transportation will join the dialogue with a presentation focused on the agency's experience with rubber modified asphalt during the past few years. In the afternoon, attention will focus on other applications of recycled rubber with a presentation called Green Space: ATLANTA and a tour of the Liberty Tire Recycling facility.  Several elected officials are expected to attend.

Rubberized asphalt is a low-cost, high-performance alternative to traditional paving mixes that reduces dependency on oil and limits CO2 emissions. Added to a traditional asphalt, crumb rubber comprises 10- to 22-percent of the binder and increases tensile strength.  For more than 40 years, rubberized asphalt has proven to diminish maintenance costs and provide a smoother, safer ride.  Plus, recycled rubber provides a reliable and consistent supply of material.
