LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon Challenges the Pacific Northwest to Hike 10,000 Miles During 10-Week Hiking Challenge

PORTLAND, Ore., July 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to encourage healthy living in the Pacific Northwest and be a health support partner for its members, LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon is launching the Actively Northwest #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge and is challenging the community to hike a total of 10,000 miles during the 10-week contest. The summer hiking challenge encourages people to get outside and hike in Washington and Oregon and gives people of all activity levels the chance to win hiking-related prizes when they hit the trails.

"By launching the #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge and making the pledge to hike 10,000 miles we think it will inspire people to get outdoors and get moving," said LifeWise Director of Health Inspiration Ariana Kukors. "The Northwest is blessed with an abundance of beautiful trails so we encourage everyone, whether you're a hardcore mountain climber, a weekend warrior or a family who wants to get active together, to get outside and explore what's right in your backyard!"

The hiking challenge will be located on the Facebook page of Actively Northwest, LifeWise's online healthy living magazine, and encourages the public to upload images from their adventures on the trails.  The site also includes a searchable guide to select trails in Washington and Oregon and a variety of filters to help hikers find the best hike to fit their needs.

In order to join the challenge, participants need to share a picture from their hike on the #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge tab on Facebook and include their mileage with their submission. By posting a hiking photo, participants will be entered into a random drawing to win one of ten weekly prizes. They will also be entered into the grand prize drawing of an REI Adventure Package valued at $2,500. The contest runs from July 28, 2014 to October 5, 2014. The #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge will also host a series of trail clean up events to help maintain select Northwest trails, including the Trail Saturday Work Party in Portland on August 23 from 9 a.m. to noon and the Green Seattle Partnership's Llandover Woods 2nd Sunday Work Party on September 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.
