LifeWise Health Plan Of Oregon Rewards Oregonians For Scheduling Preventive Care Doctor's Visits

PORTLAND, Ore., July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon today announced the launch of Prevention Pledge, a social media campaign to encourage people to take advantage of the preventive care benefits available in most plans.

Running now through October 2, Prevention Pledge invites adult Oregon residents to complete the entry form at www.preventionpledge.com and "pledge" to schedule a doctor's appointment for themselves or a family member before the end of 2015.  Entrants will be automatically entered in a weekly random drawing for a $200 Amazon gift card.  Residents don't have to be a LifeWise member to enter.  Before going to a doctor's appointment, entrants should inquire with their provider and/or health plan (if applicable) to determine whether they will have any out of pocket expenses.

The Prevention Pledge campaign helps to shed light on an important aspect of staying healthy—preventive care.  According to the Oregon Public Health Division, chronic conditions and diseases account for more than three of five deaths in Oregon each year, with approximately 61 percent of adults having at least one of the following chronic conditions: arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or stroke.  The Centers for Disease Control reports that chronic diseases account for approximately 86 percent of our nation's healthcare costs.  A regular doctor's checkup includes - screenings and exams that can save lives and money through early detection of diseases and other potential health risks.

Many health plans cover recommended regular checkups with appropriate preventive screenings at little or no cost.  Individuals with Affordable Care Act (ACA) metallic plans have the most comprehensive set of preventive benefits at no cost.  If a plan is grandfathered (meaning it was in effect before federal healthcare reform was passed in 2010), a more limited range of preventive benefits are included in the plan's coverage.  Oregon residents who have a health plan are encouraged to contact their health plan's customer service department or go online to determine their specific benefits and cost.  If you get your plan through your employer, your preventive benefits may be different.
