WEST ORANGE, N.J., Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lincoln College of New England, located in Southington, CT, has announced it will expand its degree programs in January 2014 with the addition of an RN to Bachelor of Science Degree Nursing (BSN) program. This program seeks to further serve the changing needs of Connecticut, where employment opportunities for Registered Nurses are projected to grow nearly 20% between 2010-2020, according to careerinfonet.org.

The program is designed for the RN who has successfully completed prerequisite coursework and college core requirements, and who is now seeking a BSN. Up to 70 credits may be transferred from a qualifying Associate Degree Nursing or RN program, which can help nurses accelerate their process toward a BSN. Offered via a blended learning curriculum combining flexible online home study with invaluable hands-on experience on campus, the program builds on students' current expertise in nursing and offers them an opportunity to grow professionally and improve their excellence in practice.
The RN to BSN program is part of a broader effort at LCNE aimed at meeting the requirements of the evolving health care environment. In the state of Connecticut, that environment includes a number of hospitals and healthcare organizations working to obtain "Magnet" status through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
"Registered Nurses will want to consider the advantages of earning their BSN in order to obtain or maintain employment in a Magnet organization," says Kathryn Regjo, President of Lincoln College of New England. "Registered Nurses with a BSN may also have increased opportunities for advancement within acute care clinical ladder programs, as well as within community healthcare and clinical education settings where a minimum of a BSN degree is required."
"The RN to BSN program exists as a way of best meeting the needs of the communities we serve," Regjo says. "Area residents will have the advantages of better trained nurses with higher credentials at their local healthcare facilities. And Registered Nurses can pursue the BSN degree to further their career through the additional opportunities this credential provides."
The RN to BSN program represents the fourth Bachelor's Degree Program now available at LCNE, which also offers degree programs in Funeral Service Management, Criminal Justice and Health Information Administration.
