Lincoln Military Housing Hosts Communities for the Cure in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
DALLAS, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, October 19, Lincoln Military Housing will be hosting their Communities for the Cure event in tribute of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Lincoln Military Housing employees are encouraged to show their support for co-workers who are Breast Cancer survivors by wearing pink ribbons and shirts to work. One of those employees is Dori Dillon. Below is her story:
"At age 67 my mother received the call that none of us ever want to hear, that she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. When my Mom shared the news with me I broke down and sobbed believing Breast Cancer was a definite death sentence. How wrong I was. She opted for a single mastectomy and 7 years of tamoxifen. Due to ongoing research and experimental drugs, my Mom today is a vibrant 88 year old woman that goes to the pool every morning to swim for an hour.
My older sister is a 13 year Breast Cancer Survivor, I am a 12 year Breast Cancer Survivor, and my younger sister just passed her 1 year milestone. I sit here today as a great supporter for Breast Cancer awareness and strongly believe in the ongoing fundraising events that enable research to continue in the hopes that we will find a cure for Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer is not a death sentence. In a way, it is the start of a whole new adventure and a new outlook on life. Please support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and give generously to the fight for the cure. With everyone's' help and support we CAN eliminate Breast Cancer in our lifetime. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such a caring, positive and committed Company like Lincoln Military Housing and all its employees that have joined together to show their support for such a great cause. Please join us by wearing pink shirts and ribbons to work at Lincoln Military Housing on Friday, October 19th".
