WEST ORANGE, N.J., April 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Lincoln Technical Institute (NASDAQ: LINC), a national leader in specialized automotive training, will send Tyler Crist, a student from the Denver, CO campus, to this weekend's Verizon IndyCar Series event in Long Beach, CA. Crist will participate as a member of the race team; he is the first of six students to be chosen this season as Lincoln Tech and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports mark the beginning of a sponsorship giving students an up-close look at what it takes to succeed on an IndyCar pit crew.
Last month Lincoln Tech announced its sponsorship of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' No. 5 Arrow Electronics Honda, driven by James Hinchcliffe. As an associate sponsor, Lincoln Tech will also choose exceptional students to participate in the race team's groundbreaking Mentor Program. For each of the six participating races, a student training for an automotive technology career will be chosen to work as a team member during the race weekend, with full pit and garage access. Students and selected Lincoln Tech instructors will also have the opportunity to meet Hinchcliffe and team co-owner Sam Schmidt personally.
"Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has provided us with a wonderful opportunity to allow some of our students to become completely immersed in the experience of an IndyCar race," says Scott Shaw, Lincoln Tech's CEO and President. "We've been very selective in our decision to sponsor racing teams over the years, and our relationship with Sam Schmidt was a key factor in coming to this sponsorship agreement. Sam and James are ideal role models for Lincoln Tech students looking to begin hands-on auto careers."
Lincoln Tech provides training for technicians at BraunAbility, a company dedicated to empowering physically disabled persons by customizing vans and SUVs for wheelchair mobility. Schmidt currently serves on BraunAbility's leadership team.
