Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Launches Interactive Testing Programs for Nursing Students
New Prep-U Programs Personalize Learning and Prepare Students for National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®)
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), a part of Wolters Kluwer Health, today launched two interactive testing programs powered by Prep-U for nursing students that revolutionize how students learn and prepare for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The programs, Prep-U for Smeltzer, 12th Edition, derived from Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Prep-U for NCLEX-RN, personalize the learning experience for the nursing student. Using the acclaimed Prep-U testing platform, these new programs allow students to progress at their own pace and receive formative feedback to foster true learning. Both new programs are being demonstrated this week at the National League of Nursing (NLN) Education Summit in Las Vegas.
The Prep-U platform is based on an adaptive quizzing engine that can be personalized for individual nursing students as well as entire classes. Prep-U also offers educators real-time analysis at the class and individual student levels. Research has shown that students who take practice quizzes like those on Prep-U do better on exams, and LWW's system has been specially designed to help nursing students succeed. For example, a 2007 study found that when given the opportunity to take online quizzes, students who did not use the online quizzes did significantly worse on the summative exam than those who took at least one quiz (Kibble, 2007).
"Nursing education has never been more important as nurses prepare to take on expanded roles that come with healthcare reform," said Reid Sherline, vice president, Publishing, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. "Our new programs for Prep-U are designed to help nursing students maximize their own personal learning experiences. We are starting Prep U with Smeltzer 12th Edition and NCLEX-RN, and will be rolling out additional Prep-U nursing courses in the coming months."
Prep-U for Smeltzer 12th Edition questions are specifically designed to mimic the style of the NCLEX, and when students answer questions incorrectly, they receive not only the correct answer, but a "rationale" explaining the correct answer and reasons for why each other choice was incorrect. Prep-U for NCLEX-RN includes all of the features and questions from the Smeltzer program but is specifically geared as a preparation product for the NCLEX exam. Students using this program gain access to thousands of questions organized by 29 core nursing topics or by the NCLEX "Client Needs" category.
