Liquor Control Board, Community Leaders Meet to Combat Underage and Dangerous Drinking
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To help keep Pennsylvania's children and young adults safe, the Liquor Control Board, community leaders and area educators gathered today and pledged to keep working aggressively to reduce underage and dangerous drinking.
The PLCB's "Together – Making it Work" alcohol education conference opened this morning and runs through Friday, April 23, at the Harrisburg Holiday Inn and Conference Center in New Cumberland, Cumberland County.
"We hope that having these important discussions during Alcohol Awareness Month will serve as a much needed wake-up call for our youth," said Liquor Control Board Chairman Patrick J. "P.J." Stapleton III. "We want to impress upon our community partners that by working together, we can be much stronger in the fight to prevent unnecessary harm to our youth."
Co-sponsored by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency and the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association, the two-day conference features Dr. Jason Kilmer from the University of Washington.
Recognized for his work in the field of substance abuse and prevention, Dr. Kilmer will address the issue of problem drinking among college students and outline prevention and intervention strategies for reducing drinking among this key group of young adults.
The conference will also feature discussions on using social networking sites for prevention purposes and mobilizing the community to institute positive change.
