Litens Automotive Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Flennor Automotive
TORONTO, Oct. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - October 20, 2011: Litens Automotive Group announces today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Germany against Flennor Automotive and the Walther Flender Group to enforce Litens' patents on automatic belt tensioners.
According to Alex Porat, a lawyer representing Litens, "the Flennor belt tensioners are knockoffs of Litens tensioners with removable pins that ease the installation process. These tensioners are used in a variety of VW and Audi engines, including 1.4, 1.9 and 2.0 liter turbo diesel engines from 2002 to 2009. The tensioners are protected by a global intellectual property portfolio, including European Patent # 1 412 659, U.S. Patent Nos. 7 285 065 and 7 611 431, and Chinese Patent # ZL02815059.7
As part of the lawsuit, Litens requested an injunction to stop Flennor from continuing to infringe Litens patents.
The discovery of Flennor's infringement is the result of ongoing worldwide testing and IP enforcement efforts within Litens Group. Litens also cautions consumers that use of knockoff automatic belt tensioners that do not meet original design parameters may result in catastrophic engine failure.
