Litera Turns Up the Heat on the ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge

MCLEANSVILLE, N.C., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Litera today announced its own variation on the widely popular "ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge" to raise awareness and donations for those suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In addition to dropping an entire tractor load of ice water on Litera CEO Deepak Massand and President Paul Domnick (see the YouTube clip here), Litera has pledged a one thousand dollar donation and a subsequent one hundred dollar donation for each of its over 900 client organizations who complete the challenge within the next 24 hours.

Currently, there is only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat ALS, which only modestly extends survival by two to three months. Consequently, ALS is 100 percent fatal. In addition to acclimating to the challenges that come with losing control of voluntary muscle movement, people with the disease progressively lose their ability to eat, speak, walk, and eventually breathe.
