LMATE to Showcase Halogen-Free Flame-Retardant Adhesive Materials for Fast-Charging EV Batteries at Hong Kong Consumer Electronics Show
SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- South Korean electronic materials company LMATE will participate in the Hong Kong Consumer Electronics Show to present its latest materials for fast-charging EV battery applications and explore partnerships with overseas battery and materials companies for joint application evaluations.
LMATE will present a halogen-free flame-retardant adhesive and a heat-resistant EV battery tape for cell securing and packaging, along with resin coating solutions for the bottom and sidewall surfaces of battery packs.
As charging speeds increase, battery systems face greater thermal loads and must account for the risk of heat propagation within the pack. To address these challenges, LMATE is proposing battery packaging tape for cell securing and packaging, along with resin coating for the bottom and sidewall surfaces of battery packs, as part of its approach to battery thermal propagation mitigation. The materials are designed with heat resistance, flame retardancy and adhesion performance in mind. The halogen-free design offers an alternative to formulations using halogenated flame retardants.
At the core of LMATE's approach is a reactive design that chemically incorporates flame-retardant functionality into the adhesive resin. The design is intended to reduce the migration, or bleeding, of flame-retardant components and the potential loss of adhesion associated with additive-based formulations.
LMATE's technical data includes evaluation results for 180-degree peel strength and heat resistance. A specified tape specimen met the UL 94 VTM-0 classification in testing. Actual application performance and regulatory compliance must be verified separately based on substrate type and thickness, operating environment and test conditions.
LMATE also plans to work with customers to evaluate insulation and dielectric properties under the electrical-field and electromagnetic-interference conditions relevant to their cell, module and pack designs. Performance will be assessed for each application and operating environment.
"Materials for faster-charging batteries need to withstand heat, slow flame spread and remain securely bonded," said Kim Jung-ryeol, CEO of LMATE. "We plan to work with customers on application validation that also takes electrical characteristics into account under their actual operating conditions."
LMATE develops adhesives, bonding materials and coating resins for customized applications in advanced industries, including batteries, semiconductors and displays.
